Pillar 1 for Survivor Support is not only a concept, it is an ongoing working group of stakeholders.

Disclosing sexual violence can be difficult and traumatic. The reaction that anyone—particularly an administrator or other employee, friend, or family member—has to the disclosure can significantly impactthe survivor’s experience moving forward. A supportive, trauma-informed response may pave the way for apositive healing experience, while a negative, disbelieving, or accusatory response may cause further traumaand discourage the survivor from seeking assistance such as medical care, legal advocacy, or academic support.Creating an atmosphere of positive survivor support requires a significant investment in programs and resources. While the specifics may vary from institution to institution, it is critical that survivors feel safe coming forwardto seek the support they need and deserve. - CORE Blueprint 3rd Ed.

- Department of Title IX
Experiencing trauma often requires academic support in order to continue thriving as a student. The Office of Respect can confidentially discuss a survivor’s needs from a clinical perspective and work with the Department of Accessibility Services, Department of Title IX, or other appropriate resources to ensure holistic healing support and academic success.

- Myths
Mythbusting is an important part of creating space for survivors to receive the support they need. Extensive research has shown that only 2%–10% of sexual assault reports are false (National Sexual Violence Resource Center, 2012). When someone tells you they were harmed, believe them. Unless your job is to adjudicate an investigative process, don’t ask for “proof.”
